  1. Q Does it give you grid coordinates?
    A I think you can use UTM coordinates.
  2. Q Does it ping your phone if you misplace your phone? I do a lot and my apple watch find it for me
    A Yes, there is an option to ping your phone. There is ALSO an option to ping your watch from the phone, so works backwards as well.
  3. Q Can this store music and play to a blue tooth headset?
    A Mathew D is full of it. He's not in the military he claims to be 320lbs in a review he did fir a pair of shoes. So his fantasy of going on tactical missions in Syria and Iraq are hilarious. Also no it's not a tactical or military watch. The more expensive Instinct Solar Tactical would be the military version. It's a rugged watch built for outdoor adventure. To answer the question no unfortunately you cannot store music. But you can control music you're playing off your phone with it.
  4. Q Have people compared heart rate values with those from a pulse oximeter?
    A I do have a finger pulse ox meter as well. I would say that the readings on watch match accurately to the pulse of meter. With that being said I have only used/measured at rest.
  5. Q Are the buttons for the stopwatch feature easy to use, or are small?
    A Yes I find the buttons are very easy to use. I enjoy this watch and it's blue tooth too. Clear display also.
  6. Q How much does the solar powered watch extend the battery life (for a range of solar conditions?)
    A You can expect the following : Smartwatch: Up to 24 days/54 days with solar, Battery Saver Watch Mode: Up to 56 days/Unlimited with solar , GPS: Up to 30 hours/38 hours with solar, Max Battery GPS Mode: Up to 70 hours/145 hours with solar and Expedition GPS Activity: Up to 28 days/68 days with solar (Solar charging, assuming all-day wear with 3 hours per day + outside in 50,000 lux conditions)
  7. Q Is this reliant on having a cellphone? I want a gos watch that will work even if i don't have a phone.
    A Short answer: yes, it is. Long answer: you don’t need a phone to be constantly connected to the watch in order to function, unless you want phone notifications to vibrate on your wrist every time you get a text or something. It really is designed to be paired with your phone, and won’t work for you without the ability to be regularly synced to your account on Garmin’s site. And you’ll need to sync the watch when you first get it: that’s how you’ll initially set time and date and do an initial configuration. After that you can be independent from your phone to a certain extent. You can go for days without syncing, and during that time you can record activities, gps journeys and track back to the point of origin. Eventually you’ll need to sync to the phone again so your activities and vitals sync up into your Garmin connect account, and you’ll be able to access that history via the app on your phone or a web browser on your computer. You can also push courses to the watch through syncing. I hope this helps.
  8. Q Does Tundra get dirty after wearing it for awhile?
    A I’ve had mine for a year now and wear it 24/7, through Spartans, yard work, everything, and it’s still the same color and clean. Just have to clean out small places from time to time. This is the best watch I’ve ever had.

    A Both the regular and Tactical Instinct have monochrome displays

    A No, the Instinct does not display VO2 max readings

    A Yes

  14. Q Does this work good for those who lift? Will bending the wrist a lot press the buttons accidentally?
    A If you want to get reliable heart rate tracking when you lift I would get the chest strap. Watch switches between the strap and wrist sensors automatically. Wrist sensor works fine for biking, running etc.
  15. Q Does this track mileage of a bike ride?
    A Yes, you would be able to track your ride
  16. Q I need a watch that can survive being banged around (police officer) how rugged is this watch?
    A Depends what you mean by “banged around.” I am not gentle with mine and it has worked well since I bought it several months ago.

    A Great. I wear it mountain biking and downhilling all the time. It will track your elevation changes and active minutes but not your steps on a bike
  18. Q Dose this work with Spotify
    A No, The Instinct does not support Spotify
  19. Q How well would the gps work in the Alaskan Mountains?
    A Same as anywhere else.
  20. Q Can you get all the software and firmware updates using only garmin connect on your phone......or you have to have pc and use garmin express?
    A Yes, The Instinct will update wirelessly from Garmin Connect Mobile and no PC is required
  21. Q What's the maximum filesize for .tcx file to import to Garmin Connect?
    A When manually uploading a file containing multiple activities, or a very long individual activity, you may receive an error message preventing the file from uploading successfully. Garmin Connect has a file size limit of 25 megabytes (MB) per file. There is also a limit of 99,999 total points per file.
  22. Q do you trun heart rate to be smart watch mode? to extend the battrey life upto 2 weeks?
    A I'm assuming your asking if I change watch more to extend battery life. I don't, run everything on and use GPS at least once a week. My battery life has been 14 days.

    A Yes, you can easily create custom activities and set a wide variety of data field to match your needs
  24. Q can this be paired with Kinetic Fit app?
    A We cannot guarantee compatibility to third party apps or programs. We would recommend you reach out to Kinetic Fit for information on which devices are compatible with them.
  25. Q I am looking for a wearble gps tracker we can use while hiking in rural areas. does this provide an actual map or compass only directions?
    A it has a breadcrumb style mapping and compass directions, and many other navigation features such as coordinates and projected waypoint, but it does not have preloaded topography or street maps
  26. Q Does this watch have a great compass,a good one, or none at all? I bought it for my son for Christmas the compass is an important feature for him???
    A Good Compass but not greatHold down on one of the buttons and the watch face becomes a compass. It shows the degrees (0-360) and the general direction (SE for example).You would not use this watch to plot a course on a map. For that, you can buy a compass for less than $20 that lie flat on a map, can be adjusted for a magnetic correction, they have lines, etc.
  27. Q Does it have quick replies to text messages?
    A Yes, indeed, the Instinct does support quick (pre-written) replies to text messages. I just tried it, and it works.
  28. Q Can you download courses created from a 3rd party site as a .gpx or .tcx file? Or do you have to exclusively use Garmin Connect &/or Explore for that?

  29. Q I do desert exploring on a polaris rzr. can i track my course while riding and then use it to return home the way i came?
    A Yes, this function is available when set to a GPS activity. You can navigate back to the starting point of your current activity in a straight line or along the path you traveled
  30. Q Does this watch only take proprietary bands? The replacement bands on the Garmin website are waaaay too expensive.
    A The Instinct will work with any of the quick fit 22 bands which we also use on our Fenix 5 line. We always suggest and recommend use of official Garmin accessories but there may be third party options available.
  31. Q Can you buy replacement bands
    A Yes, we have a wide selection of bands available. If you click on accessories on the Instinct on our website you will see your options
  32. Q The garmin fenix would not allow chest strap hrm (ant+) in ultratrac mode. can you use both on the instinct?
    A No, Ultratrac is a low power mode on the device and that disables ANT+ communication with accessories
